Lovely post and your house sounds (and looks, in pictures) very pretty! I remember a line from a movie - Homes are for free expression, not for good impressions - and that pretty much sums up my relaxed approach to my living spaces :p
This is so beautiful, Katie. I am still working on making what we hope is our final home (we’re both retired) a house of comfort and refuge. I long ago gave up on trying to follow trends. A friend once came into our house and said, “It feels just like walking into a hug!”
What a beautiful post 💖 It's clear how much your home means to you. I remember many years ago when we bought our little home in the city (which we love to bits), some were surprised that we weren't building a mansion in the country. To be fair, it was 'the done thing' at the time (still is to a certain degree) but we wanted to live our way. Our little home is our sanctuary from the world and we love it 🏡💖
I was thinking about this exact same thing yesterday! I'm that person who scrolls houses for sale with moats or million-dollar mansions, but I know I'd never want to live in one. I like what you said, "This is a home to be lived in. A space where there is no need for pretense or fear of damaging shiny new furniture. Instead, there’s room for genuine connection, authenticity and vulnerability. A cozy, comfortable place where we can feel at ease to be ourselves." That is what I want ✨
I love these sentiments. Our home is the same. Collections built over time, holding so many memories. Our new to us dining table could stand to be refinished, but honestly I love the paint marks left by the previous owner's art projects.
Katie-I needed to read this. My home is also adorned with things from generation past. Pieces that my grandfather made when we were first married-a china cabinet, dining table and benches, chest of drawers, etc. Things that could not be bought these days, things that are still lovely and have survived moves through several states and the rough and tumble of children and later on, pets. It brings back memories of my grandparents who were hardworking, but fun people who loved us and disciplined us. They were such wonderful role models for the grandchildren in the family. I will enjoy reading your posts. Thanks for being here.
This resonates with me so strongly. Our home is filled with beloved things that have passed down through our joint families over many generations. They are old, beautiful & each tells a story of a person we have loved. Many are battered & well worn but each was made with care & love & is a million miles away from the trendy often souless items we see on social media. It is fair to say that I love anything pre-loved & vintage anyway, but there is nothing like having that well loved beauty & quirkyness that also holds a well loved family memory. Thank You for a lovely piece
I love this post Katie. Not only is it more realistic and practical to live this way, but it is so special when the homes which we spend so much time in tell our personal story. I hate the trend of going to Kmart or the like and buying decor for the sake of decorating. Like yours, our house is filled with little treasures we have collected or inherited over the years and which hold special memories. And in my opinion that is what differentiates a home from a house.
I couldn’t agree more Steph! And the idea of changing decor frequently, to keep up with what’s on trend - it is so ridiculously wasteful and must be absolutely exhausting.
I can just picture your beautiful family sitting around that gorgeous dining table enjoying all those loving experiences. Homes are to be loved and lived in, not on display. I can feel the love coming from within those walls. Beautiful post as always ❤️
So beautifully written. Your home is beautiful and I can feel the love inside it. We love our little house too. We downsized from a big house 15 years ago and I’d never go back to living in a big home.

Oh, I absolutely love that quote! Just perfect 👌🏻🥰

That’s what I am going for. 😊
There is no better compliment than that! 🥰

Our little house is our sanctuary too. There is nowhere I would rather be. 🥰
🧡✨ precisely the kind of house (and approach to life) that invites a cuppa and a chat you just KNOW will be authentic!
Nothing better than a cuppa and a lovely long chat! 🥰
I always think a simple, clean, and uncluttered house looks wonderful no matter what the "decor."
I totally agree! ❤️

And imagine having to clean a huge house! I love that I can clean our whole house top to bottom in a couple of hours. 👌🏻
Hahaha I always say that to my family!!! “Can you imagine having to clean it?? - no thanks!” Ha! We are kindred spirits indeed hehe

A beautiful share and much needed message for the time we live in. ✨
This was so good! The idea of mismatched crockery feels so warm and inviting. Exactly how a home should feel.

Thank you so much Pamela! “Loved and lived in” is exactly it! 🥰
Couldn't love this more Katie ☺️
Thank you, Lovely 🥰
This was so lovely Katie. Cheers to our beautiful and lived in spaces! 🩷
Thank you, Mackenzie! 🥰

Thank you, Tina. 🥰 I love small houses! Cozy and so much less work to keep clean!
